Vance Tales

Fun in the Sun!

Hi everyone! I can not tell you how wonderful it feels to have a long weekend. I feel like I’ve been running non-stop lately and it sure feels good to slow down for a little while. Friday night Matt took me on a date to see Pirates 3. It was really good…I personally preferred it over the second one, but I like the whole series so far. Saturday I had a photo shoot with Angie…we took pictures at a fashion show for horse riders. Walking horses are really big in our area. There is a lady in Shelbyville that designs outfits for the people that show the horses in competition. The pictures we took will be used for the lady’s advertising. It was fun, but I didn’t get to see a single horse. Bummer. On Sunday Matt and I attended church and then Sunday afternoon we headed over to his Aunt Sandy’s house for a cookout. Check out some pictures I took at the cookout! You will notice that there are no shots of our nephew, Ty, included in these pictures. Although, I did take a lot of pictures of him, I didn’t want his picture publicly posted on the web. If you would like to see shots of the little rascal just let me know and I will send you a link.

On that note, as I celebrate this Memorial Day, I know that the freedom I have to go on a date with my husband, take pictures and celebrate days off with family is a result of the sacrifice of our service men and women. I have several people I know personally (Gabe Lewis, Greg Moore, Bobby Houk, Caleb Daniel, and Tyler Layne) that have committed to serving our country–to fight for freedom. Thank you to those serving now. Thank you to those who served in the past. Because of you…I am free.

Home Ownership

Posted in Everyday life... by Lauren on the May 24th, 2007

So let me tell you about home ownership…Matt and I bought our house and then realized that the previous owners had kept 3 dogs in the house, but never vacuumed.  We steamed the carpet twice, vacuumed the carpet, swept the hardwood multiple times and to this day we are still encountering pet hair.  It really is quite annoying.  Especially with the allergies that Matt has.  Oh, and that is another thing.  Whoever built our house built an air return that only takes “custom” made air filters.  We can’t find one anywhere so we are guessing the previous owners never found one either and, therefore, that filter has not been changed since the house was first built.  I’ve lived with all of that because it is fixable and not catastrophic.  However, this past Sunday I was cooking lunch and decided to run the dishwasher so I would be able to unload and reload after lunch.  Everything was going great until I looked down at my floor and I have suds around my feet.  AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!  So we took every dish out, drained the dishwasher (by hand might I add), and tried to locate the problem.  We decided that some rinse aid that I had just refilled got mixed in with the detergent (if you read your dishwasher’s owners manual it will tell you that is a no-no) and ran the dishwasher with no dishes in it.  Worked like a charm! ….until Monday night when I reloaded it with dishes and looked down to see standing water on the floor.  Now my hardwood is screwed up and I have to keep a dehumidifier on all the time to avoid mold (back to Matt’s allergies).  I currently have a dishwasher, fan and dehumidifier in the middle of my warped kitchen floor.  I have towels spread out on my counter so that when I wash my dirty dishes by hand I will have somewhere to put them and I am still trying to cook most nights!  Sometimes growing up just isn’t that great.
